Local media reporters were also contacted to provide coverage of our efforts. If an assigned reporter was reluctant to cover our stories, complaints about that reporter were issued by individuals of the same gender as the reporter. Further calls up the chain of command and letters to the editor were made to assure maximum exposure of our activities. As a last resort, we would approach advertisers and talk with them about our being excluded from these publications and the importance of our activities equalizing justice between men, women and the government.
Our movement has not only been gender neutral but also politically neutral. The issues of custody and parenting time, parents rights to discipline their children and the collection of overdue child support are treated equally. We're friendly to those who support us and even to those who fight against us.
The turning point for Parents For Children PAC came in June of 1997, when a new attorney by the name of Janet Frederick-Wilson offered to do some work toward forcing the counties to establish the state mandated Citizen Advisory Committees. What followed was a six-week period of Planning that led to a three-week tour of Michigan counties.
Janet Frederick-Wilson's legal expertise represented us at a key meeting with some of the Macomb County Commissioners and Chief Judge, and led to the three week, three county courts with TV coverage at all of them and a big win in Clare County with the return of a family's children.
We now have representatives in a number of counties, other members across the state. County Commissions have been forced to form the Citizens Advisories. One head of the Friend of the Court has been forced to resign(Saginaw County). Over 200 newspapers articles have mentioned us as far away as the Richmond Times in Virginia. Parents for Children signs have been seen on almost all the TV broadcast in the State of Michigan.
Our goal was have the citizen advisory statute rewritten and get it passed in Lansing. We have many more counties in which to hand out flyers. And many more American heroes to help us fight "The Good Fight".
No story would be complete without yours:( Please add yours). We have a lot more history to write and many more heroes have yet to fill our ranks. We are just one flyer away.
